October 30 – November 2 (times coming soon)
First of all, we just have to say a huge thank you to each of you for coming out and wow-ing us at auditions this week. We were simply overwhelmed that 160+ showed up and by how incredibly talented you all are. Second, thanks for being patient. We apologize for the extra day…but there were a lot of you and we were so rushed Monday night that we needed to callback a few more people to hear things we did not have a chance to hear Monday. We want you to know it was very difficult to choose. In fact, we will likely talk to a number of you who were cast about understudying certain principal roles. We certainly have more than ample capable options for understudies, but we’ll get to that a little later.
So…finally, we are now very pleased and so excited to announce this fabulous cast to you! If you haven’t already, please be sure to look at BOTH PDF documents below. Many of you in the choruses also have one or more named solo parts somewhere in the show, so peruse the Scene Breakdown document carefully for your name (suggestion: use CTR+ F “Find” feature). Several more of you in the chorus will be assigned a non-singing part (Judge, Bishop’s sister, etc.) later.
For now, what we need from you is a confirmation that you will officially accept the role(s) you’ve been cast in. You may simply email Alison Cook, as she will be keeping track of confirmations. We would really like to know by no later than June 1. We would like to complete any shuffling we may need to do as a result of any who decline their role by the time we have our Sunday, June 1 Cast Connect Meeting.
For those of you who were not cast, we again reiterate that this is not necessarily a reflection on your abilities at all. As always, there are many factors at play other than vocal ability in the casting process. Mostly, we could just not have a cast of 160+. There is just not enough room on the stage nor is there much for younger children, for instance, to do in this show if not cast in a principal role. If you still have interest in being a part of this production in some way, there are numerous opportunities backstage and behind the scenes where help will be required to pull this show off. Please let us know if you are interested in pursuing any of those options.
In the end, we know many of you will have some disappointment at not receiving a role, or the role you desired, perhaps, but we hope and pray you will continue on this journey with us as we are so excited about the opportunity to bring this powerful show with its message of grace, compassion and redemption to the stage at Grace. We can’t wait to see what God is going to do in and through this show!
On behalf of the entire Directing Team:
Amy Christie, Kendra Kirby, Mandy Polster and Jeff Unruh
Ps. So you’ve been cast in a character and you’re super excited and want to tell everyone all about it…but have no idea if you’re saying your character’s name correctly? We’ve got you covered. See this attachment (Parlez vous Les Mis?) for a little French pronunciation help. Bonne Journée!
